Roberto Sebastián Matta
Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta Echaurren was a Chilean artist born in Santiago, 1911. He is one of Chile's most well-known painters and is remembered for his contribution to the abstract expressionist and surrealist art movements. He traveled to Europe and the United States frequently to engage with his peers Salvador Dalí and André Breton. Matta's art took on new lifeforms and explored untapped dimensions, a true pioneer for abstract artists. He died in Civitavecchia, Italy, 2002.
